Not Cool, SuicideGirls.
A word of warning: a good deal of the sites I link to in this blog entry have pornographic content. Porn!
You may or may not have heard of SuicideGirls, a supposed little haven in the world of softcore porn. Pierced and tattooed girls in charge of how they're presented! How liberating! Yay for women-made alternaporn!
There is none of that "hungry cumslut" image being projected onto them without their direct knowledge.
We also wanted to let the girls be in charge of how they were presented...
We are investigating a number of sites that appear to be selling suicidegirl images online. WE ARE AWARE OF THE PROBLEM.
Except...well, this. This is content from SuicideGirls that are no longer, for various reasons, part of the site. So, it comes down do this: a site famed for women-positive, enlightened smut has sold photos of former models so that they are now portrayed as "ready for your cock" and loving "it from behind."
Hmmm.
I don't know what the lesson is here. Don't let yourself be naked on the internet? Don't sign away all your rights to your pictures? Porn is porn is porn, no matter how you label it? Don't trust anyone?
Suicidegirls, that's not cool. Just, not cool. I know there are bigger things for me to worry about concerning feminist issues, but, what the hell, Suicidegirls? Not cool.

Not cool indeed... SG is a money machine, so I'm a little surprised they're risking their "reputation" for a quick buck from an outfit like this. I'd heard various warnings from an experienced model or two that SG was not as different as they presented themselves to be.
On another note, and purely by coincidence, my blog entry from late last night/early this morning is about my dealing with a newly annointed Suicide Girl I was supposed to shoot with tonight. Read all about it!
Hope you don't mind, but I cite your blog in an entry on mine and send my readers to this entry. Link!
Forgive my third comment on the article, but there's a pretty good discussion thread on this topic over at Model Mayhem that really makes the whole thing sound dodgy.
Candy, have you posed for Suicide Girls?
4th comment? How embarassing... just wanted to add another data point I picked up. Apparently adult site operators can buy 13 complete sets of SG images for $500, or $38 a set, or less than a buck an image. And I don't think it's limited to "retired" sets even.
Gary! You stalker!
Once again, not cool, suicidegirls.
b- no, I have not.
